Flunil

Common use

Flunil capsule is used for the treatment of depression as it is relatively safe and has better acceptability by patients. Due to its favourable effects, it is also used in treating anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias and related disorders. Antidepressants like Flunil are basically mood elevators in patients who suffer from depression. They make the patient more communicative and let them interact and be involved in their surroundings.

Dosage and direction

Follow the directions given by your pharmacist or doctor for using a Flunil capsule. Take the capsules with one whole glass of water. Swallow the capsules as a whole, do not crush or chew the tablet.

Precautions

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
This medicine should be used with caution if you have liver disease or diabetes. If you have a history of seizures or are at risk of low sodium levels in your blood (hyponatremia), talk to your doctor before starting this medicine.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
It is also contraindicated if you are taking another type of medicine called a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken one in the past two weeks. These include medicines such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine, or tranylcypromine.

Possible side effect

Side effects of Flunil: Feeling sick; Headaches; Feeling sleepy or having trouble sleeping; Feeling nervous or restless; Changes in weight.

Drug interaction

Flunil capsule may interact with medications, including: Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors) like phenelzine and tranylcypromine; Pimozide; Metoprolol; Lithium drugs; Other SSRIs like sertraline; Antiallergic medications like mequitazine; Antipsychotics like risperidone and quetiapine; Anti-epileptic drugs like carbamazepine and sodium valproate; Drugs to prevent blood clot formation, like warfarin; Drugs like flecainide to treat heart diseases; Drugs for treating pain, like tramadol, and sumatriptan; Anti-cancer drugs like tamoxifen may also interact with Flunil capsules.

Missed dose

If you forget to take a Flunil capsule, take it as soon as you remember. But if the time for the next dosage is close, it is recommended to skip the missed one and resume your regular dosage pattern. Only increase your dosage after consulting your doctor.

Overdose

If you or someone else takes an excessive amount of Flunil capsule by accident, it is essential to take immediate medical advice from your doctor or a nearby hospital. The overdose symptoms include feeling sick inside the stomach, vomiting, feeling of agitation or excitement and feeling restless.

Storage

Store the medicine at room temperature below 30 ºC. Protect Flunil capsules from light and moisture. Keep it in a dark and dry place. Keep the medicine away from the reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.
